This raster dataset consists of color orthophotos. A digital orthophoto is a raster image processed from vertical aerial photographs in which displacement in the image due to sensor orientation and terrain relief have been removed. Orthophotos combine the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. Unlike planimetric maps which depicts natural and manmade features by means of lines, point symbols, texts and polygons, orthophotos show the actual images of features and are thus more easily interpreted than regular maps.<\/span><\/p>

This raster dataset is a composite of several different years and sources of raster data in order to provide seamless aerial photography coverage of Maricopa County. It was made so that it would represent the most current, best resolution available aerial photography no matter where you are in the county. This helps eliminate loading several years worth of raster datasets trying to accomplish this same goal. It is updated annually with orthophotos from the latest \"countywide\" aerial photography project. Currently this composite is made by combining the image files from:<\/span><\/p>
